This bench allowed me to use a little more creativity when I was building it. I guess thats what I really enjoy about rustic furniture. It allows me to make the kind of changes that makes each piece a bit different from what was built before it. I found two trees that were bent at the base of the tree and produced the natural curves. Remember about where the "wood will take me"? The back rest was the result of a whim. I had a thick cedar board and kind of wondered to myself "what if". Of course my what if was more work, but I was very pleased with the end result. I found two more similar trees with the curve at the base and made a matching chair to go with the bench.
